Short answer: Kualoa Regional Park is a City and County of Honolulu beach park facing Mokoli‘i (Chinaman’s Hat). The city lists no parking fee. The parking lot is closed from 8pm to 7am, so be back at your car before 8pm.

Kualoa Regional Park and Kualoa Ranch are next to each other on O‘ahu’s windward coast, and people mix them up all the time. This page is about the public beach park. For the private ranch and its tours, see the Kualoa Ranch parking guide.

Kualoa Regional Park parking hours

The city’s park closure hours list gives the Kualoa Regional Park parking lot as closed from 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. That means the lot is open from 7am to 8pm. Plan sunset photos of Mokoli‘i with that 8pm closing in mind.

About the park

From the city’s park page: the park covers about 153 acres on the northern point of Kāne‘ohe Bay and includes the small island of Mokoli‘i. It has beach wheelchairs and mats for accessible beach access, and park staff can be reached at 808-768-8974.

Camping

Kualoa has 21 campsites in two campgrounds, with three- and five-day permits. Campground A, on the Kāne‘ohe side, closes in summer for city parks programs. Campground B faces Mokoli‘i next to the old Hawaiian fishponds. Camping needs a city permit, and the parking-lot closing hours still apply to day visitors.

Kualoa Regional Park vs Kualoa Ranch

  • Kualoa Regional Park: public city beach park, no fee listed, lot open 7am to 8pm.
  • Kualoa Ranch: private ranch with paid tours and its own parking. See the ranch parking guide.

Plan the drive

Kualoa is on Kamehameha Highway, about halfway up the windward coast. For the full loop and timing, see how long it takes to drive around O‘ahu. Nearby beaches with their own parking rules: Kailua Beach and Lanikai Beach. Continuing to the North Shore? See Shark’s Cove parking.
