Short answer: Waikiki has dozens of car rental desks within walking distance of the beach. The best-rated ones with big review counts are local companies: Sky Road (4.8 on about 6,800 reviews), First Rent A Car (4.8 on about 3,000) and Roamer (4.8 on about 1,400). Sixt is the best-rated big brand at 4.6. If you only need a car for a few hours, Hui car share rents by the hour.

A Waikiki car rental is often the smarter move than renting at the airport. Waikiki hotel parking runs roughly $45 to $80 a night (see Waikiki parking for rental cars), so many visitors skip the car for the city days and rent in town only for the days they leave Waikiki. Below is every rental desk in Waikiki with its Google rating and review count, pulled on October 20, 2026.

Hourly car share: Hui

Hui is a car share run through an app. You reserve a car by the hour or the day, unlock it with your phone, and skip the rental counter. Its site lists pickup spots in Waikiki, at the airport, Ala Moana, Kakaako and Manoa. On October 20, 2026 it showed a starting price of $12.60 an hour or $131.78 a day for a Prius, with prices varying by location and car. For a half-day trip to a beach or a hike, that can beat a full-day rental plus a night of hotel parking.

Waikiki or the airport?

  • Driving around the island for most of your stay: pick up at Honolulu Airport. See the Honolulu Airport car rental guide and the ratings for every HNL desk.
  • Mostly staying in Waikiki with one or two day trips: take a taxi, rideshare or bus from the airport, and rent in Waikiki only for the trip days. You save the nightly parking on the other days.
  • A few hours only: try Hui.
  • Thinking about a peer-to-peer car? See Turo in Hawaii vs a rental car.

The International Market Place garage on Kalakaua charges $4 per 30 minutes, and spending $25 there gets you the first hour free with validation. For Manoa Falls, the trailhead lot is private and listed at $7 a car; the Manoa Falls parking guide has the hours.
