Short answer: No Honolulu airport car rental counters are inside the terminals. All ten on-airport companies are in the rental car center (CONRAC) across from Terminal 2: walk from Terminal 2 domestic arrivals, or take the free shuttle from Terminal 1 and international arrivals.

Honolulu airport car rental counters are not right off baggage claim. Here is where they actually are, which companies are there, and what to expect.

Where the rental car center is

All on-airport rental companies operate out of the five-story Consolidated Rent-A-Car facility (CONRAC), directly across from Terminal 2, per the HNL car rentals page.

  • Walk: if you land at Terminal 2 Baggage Claims 19 to 31, walk to the entrances outside Baggage Claims 26 and 31.
  • Shuttle: from Terminal 1 (Baggage Claims 6 to 11), Terminal 2 International Arrivals (Baggage Claims 16 to 18) and Terminal 3, take the rental car shuttle. Pickup is at the ground-level median with the blue and white curb: between Baggage Claims 8 and 9 at Terminal 1, and across from Baggage Claim 18 at Terminal 2. Shuttles run 4:00 a.m. to midnight.

Which rental companies are at Honolulu airport

The ten companies in the CONRAC are Alamo, Avis, Budget, Dollar, Enterprise, Hertz, National, Payless, Sixt and Thrifty. Their counters are on Level 2. Bring your confirmation, license and the card you booked with, because lines back up when several flights land together.

Off-airport rentals and Turo

Off-airport companies don’t have counters here. Their shuttles pick up at the PRE-ARRANGED 4 area on the ground level at the west end of the CONRAC, and you need to arrange the pickup with the company first. Turo hosts may only hand over cars on levels 7 and 8 of the International Parking Garage; see Turo in Hawaii vs a rental car.

Before you drop it back off

Most agreements require a full tank at return or charge a refueling fee that runs well above pump prices. See the gas stations near Honolulu Airport guide for the closest options to the CONRAC. Give yourself 45 to 60 minutes for gas, the return inspection and the shuttle back to your terminal. H-1 traffic near the airport at rush hour eats into that buffer fast.

  • For the return, follow the airport’s rental car return signs. 300 Rodgers Blvd is the airport’s general address, so a GPS pin on it can drop you at the terminals instead.
  • If you’re only renting for a couple of drive days, see whether you need a rental car on Oahu at all before booking a full-trip rate.
