Short answer: Nine companies rent cars at Kahului Airport, all in one rental car center reached by an electric tram from the terminal. Have your confirmation and ID ready, because lines build at peak arrivals.
Kahului Airport car rental is simpler than it looks once you know the layout. If you are flying into Maui, you are landing at Kahului Airport (OGG), the island’s main hub. Here is what happens once you land and want a rental car.
Getting to the rental counters
The rental car center is not inside the terminal. The on-airport companies share one consolidated facility on airport property, and an electric tram on a rail line, about half a mile long, runs between it and the terminal, per HDOT’s announcement when it opened in 2019. Follow the signs for the rental car tram once you clear baggage claim.
One exception worth knowing: Ace Rent a Car isn’t on the airport’s list of on-airport companies and runs its own shuttle. If you booked with Ace or another off-airport company, look for its pickup point instead of following the tram signs.

*The airport marks these as having ADA-accessible vehicles; call at least 48 hours ahead to arrange one. Any company not on this list, including the local Maui outfits, picks you up by shuttle or meets you off the airport.
Off-airport and Turo options
- Local companies: Kihei Rent A Car is a family-run alternative in Kihei. Its shuttle from the airport is free on rentals of 5 days or more.

One thing to check before you drive off
If the Road to Hana is anywhere on your itinerary: most rental agreements do allow the main paved route (Highways 36 and 360), but they explicitly prohibit the unpaved “back road” sections beyond Kipahulu. Driving there voids your rental agreement and most credit card or personal insurance coverage too, worth confirming with your specific rental company before you go, not after.
